Fend for yourself night

Tonight was a fend for yourself night for dinner. These happen periodically, home late, Milo is hungry "Right now Mommy" and neither of the adults are that hungry. Let me just say this is the exception, not the rule because I do think it is very important for families to eat together. However, all rules have to be bent sometime. Tonight was Milo's lucky night. I was foolish enough to ask him what he wanted. Do you suppose he requested freshly steamed veggies with a side of whole wheat pasta? No he did not.

Milo: I want scooby doo macaroni and cheese and one hotdog Mom, only one with some ketchup
Me: Well how about some peas. You have to have something fresh. (A Mom still has to have some rules, right?)
Milo: Nope, no peas Mom, only macaroni and hot dogs.
Mark: How about a fruit Mom, would that count?
Me: Sure. Strawberries? Bananas? Grapes?
Milo: Ummm, strawberries
Me: Great!
Milo: I help you Mom. Come on, let's go.

Off we went to the kitchen, and I started pulling all the ingredients out for this "gourmet meal."

Milo: I get the strawberries for you Mom
Me: Great, do you know where they are?
Milo: (does in fact know and procures them from the fridge) Yup
Me: Thanks so much, you are such a great helper, now pick out your strawberries
Milo: (examining the strawberries carefully) Mom, I think strawberries are cute.
Me: Oh really?
Milo: Yup, look how cute they are. Cute cute cute. I eat you all up.
