Milo knows all about Christmas. Our first two Christmas seasons, he was pretty much oblivious to the whole thing. The presents were cool, but the wrapping paper was cooler. Last year however, the whole thing really sunk in. I got to see the wonder and magic of this whole Santa thing and that twinkle of belief in the magic of it all. He started to grasp the concept of the Nativity too. I think this year the Nativity might make a bit more sense, since he has experienced first hand what it is like to have a baby in the house.
What he really thought was cool though was "The List" where he could write down everything his little heart desired. Actually he dictated, I wrote, then he colored it for me. I am of course saving this, as I am sure I will look back on it fondly in later years when the magic is gone.
Milo wanted some pretty great things last year. He wanted his own firetruck, fire station and firemen. Probably to put out fires and to just hang out with. I mean who doesn't want to have your own personal set of fireman and firetrucks? He also wanted a rocketship, so he can see things way up high. He wanted his own boat so that he could see fish. Just the kind of limitless imagination that an almost 3 year old has. This year the list is expanding, but it has become much more toy centered. I expected this, because TV and friends from school are all pretty much centered on the toy arena right now.
This morning I had to be work pretty early, so for the first time in a long while I woke up Milo, instead of the other way around. I went into his room and started gathering his clothes for the day and his little eyes popped open.
Milo: Mommy, is that you?
Me: Yup, good morning love.
Milo: What are you doing Mommy?
Me: Well it is almost time to get up, so I am picking out your clothes
Milo: Mommy, it is still dark, we don't get up yet. (How many times have I argued this very point with him, and he never seems to listen)
Me: I know, but today is a special day, so we have to get up a bit early.
Milo: Oh, hey Mommy, I need something.
Me: (opening up the curtains and turning on the light) What is that sweetie?
Milo: I no have Starscream
Me: What? What is that?
Milo: Mommy! I no have Starscream or Megatron's plane.
Me: (Transformers, I should have known) Oh. Well that is true.
Milo: Mommy, I need them. Megatron is so sad without his friend, and he is so sad without his plane.
Me: (Glancing at the Megatron toy by his bed, who seems actually quite fine without Starscream and his plane) Somehow I think that Megatron will survive
Milo: (eyes welling up with tears) Mommy, he is so sad right now and Milo is sad for Megatron.
Me: Well, maybe we can put those on our list for Christmas, okay?
Milo: (nodding quietly) Okay, but I think Megatron would like it more if we got it from the store.
